Neugeboren, Jay

(b. 1938)
   American writer. Neugeboren was born in Brooklyn and educated at Columbia University and at the University of Indiana. He has taught at several universities and has been the Writer-in-Residence at the University of Massachusetts. He is best known for his novel The Stolen Jew (1981) for which he won the American Jewish Committee’s Best Novel Award. The book is concerned with the problem of Jewish identity and it was followed by Before My Life Began (1985).
