Lasker, Albert Davis

   US advertising pioneer. A member of a Texan family prominent in Jewish communal affairs, Lasker worked first as a journalist and subsequently as an advertising executive with the Chicago agency of Lord and Thomas, which he bought in 1910. He was a pioneer of the intricate techniques of successful copywriting, and his firm became one of the largest and most successful in the world. As chairman of the US Shipping Board (1921–3), he reorganized the merchant marine. In 1928 he endowed the Lasker Foundation for Medical Research.
