Janner, Barnett, Lord

(1891–1982)
   British parliamentarian and Jewish leader. ‘Barney’ Janner, a Welsh-born solicitor, was a firm champion of Zionism and Jewish rights, whether as a Labour member of Parliament for nearly thirty years, or as president of the Zionist Federation or president of the Board of Deputies. He was knighted in 1965 and made a life peer in 1970, when his son Greville (b. 1928) won the same parliamentary seat in Leicester.
