Hambro, Joseph

(1780–1848)
   Danish financier. The son of a silk and cloth merchant in Copenhagen, Hambro became court banker to the king of Denmark, and negotiated financial and trade agreements on behalf of the Danish government with Britain and Norway. At the age of sixty he settled in London, where his son Carl Joachim (1808–77), baptized at the age of fifteen, founded the merchant bank of that name.
