Yehoshua, Avraham B.

(b. 1936)
   Israeli writer. Yehoshua was born and educated in Jerusalem. He is a highly popular author and his novels include Hame’ahev (‘The Lover’, 1977) which has as its background the Yom Kippur War and Gerushim me’uharim (‘A Late Divorce’, 1982). His plays include Laylah Bernai (‘A Night in May’, 1969) and Hafatzim (‘Objects’, 1986). He is also a prominent social critic and is known for his commitment to ‘Israelism’ rather than Judaism for the people of Israel.
